Good morning and happy Thursday!
If you are able, please join us on Friday the 13th (from 5-7pm) for our second art-walk in the Castle & Cathedral Creative District.
There will be activities/art events throughout the District, including:
· a pop-up Parisian style café in the Joslyn Castle Carriage House to celebrate the opening of “Lit Fest” with Metro Community College. This celebration of literature (a series of theatrical performances based on the work of the ”Lost Generation”) will begin at 7:30 in the Castle (tickets are on sale now).
· Adam Dienst-Scott, photography faculty at Metropolitan Community College and Co-director of Link Gallery + Workshop, and Anne Dienst-Scott, Co-director of Link Gallery + Workshop, will be shooting tintype portraits in the Carriage House.
· The “Artober” art show at Cali Commons
· The Cathedral Arts Project in the Sunderland Gallery will be open and will be hosting two art shows.
· Our friends at the Offutt Manor will also be open for tours and will feature a pop-up art show.
Marlon Wofford of Dripps BBQ will be onsite at the Castle to feed your BBQ cravings.

Omaha’s House of Afros, Capes & Curls Presents AfroCon 2023
Making Space to Dream: Celebrating the Ultimate Intersection of Black Culture and Fandom
(OMAHA, Neb.) SEPTEMBER 7, 2023—The House of Afros, Capes & Curls will hold its 5th Annual signature event, AfroCon, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 9 a.m to 7 p.m. at Metropolitan Community College’s Fort Omaha Campus, 32nd & Sorensen Parkway Omaha, NE 68111, in building #24, the Center for Advanced & Emerging Technologies Building. Tickets are $10 for K-12 students and $25 for general admission, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit host organization.
This is an extraordinary, family-friendly event that blends the magic of Black culture and Nerd culture with a day of immersive entertainment and enriching activities. It is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, forge new friendships, and support talented independent artists and businesses led by people of color. From engaging panel discussions, workshops, and cosplay contests, to a bustling vendor market, food trucks, kids activities, board games, and new this year, Esports gaming and tournaments, AfroCon offers a diverse range of activities for all fandoms and all ages. Professional photographs will be taken and cosplay or fandom-inspired dress is encouraged.
Special guests for this year’s panels and workshops include New York Times bestselling author Lacey Lamar, board game designer Marcus Ross, whose current “The Lord of the Rings Adventure Book” game is available exclusively at Target, and Mister K from “Mister K’s Clubhouse”, Omaha’s only live-action, educational preschool series. Also presenting this year are, acclaimed poet Zedeka Poindexter, award-winning playwright, Peggy Jones, bestselling author and playwright Kim Louise, YouTube Boardgaming Enthusiasts Our Family Plays Games, and Sensiil Studios, Iowa & Nebraska’s first black comic book company. New this year are Big Mama’s Kitchen, and Still Poppin Gourmet popcorn.
